Starting Small

Hello everyone! Here we are, week 2 of the One Room Challenge. This week brought some small changes due to some work priorities and a sick dog. Friday I spent most of the day at the vet because my senior pup wasn’t feeling great. So that was stressful. Plus, I was up all night on Friday since he still wasn’t feeling great, which put me in bed most of the day on Saturday.

Anyway…sticking to my original plan, I did the bare minimum. I was hoping to get some more organization done, but some of that has had to wait.

My week 2 plan was to clean out the closet and get my new desk set up.

The closet

As you may remember or have just read, my closet was jam-packed with crap I’ve been ignoring. Everything was just piled on top of each other.

Before.
After!

With the help of some wonderful shelves from Amazon, I was able to organize the luxurious pillows and sheets for our guest room. I also decided to put the shirts from my failed on hold t-shirt company away in the drawer. Seeing that I have more vertical space, I’ll likely buy more of these shelves to stack.

Disclaimer: I do not make any money from links I share. I just want to make it easy for people to buy something if they are interested.

The desk

Now, there wasn’t anything wrong with my desk, but it felt a bit small. Originally, I wanted a smaller desk so that I wouldn’t clutter it up, but that plan didn’t work out. It felt cramped and I always had to move my keyboard and mouse out of the way if I had to record something where my face needed to be on camera. I am not an influencer, so I did not have “the perfect set up”.

The wires alone gave me anxiety.

My desk is on carpet, so wobbly is just something I have to deal with. However, my desk was wobbling in overtime. Not sure if anyone is part of a Buy Nothing group, but it’s pretty much my favorite thing ever. I happened upon a Flexispot 48″ desktop, legs not included.

So with my new desktop, I needed to find legs. I was fixated on this and it maaay have affected my work output that day. I was looking on Facebook Marketplace and comparing so many companies. Finally, I landed on this brand. With the free desktop, I basically got a new stand-up desk for $90.

New desk!

My before photo doesn’t show it well, but to make room for the guest bed, the desk was pretty close to the closet. You couldn’t fully open the closet door and this became a point of stress for me. I decided to move the desk out a bit, then move it over when I pull down the Murphy bed when someone’s here.

But Jamie, isn’t that a pain, especially on carpet?

I have it covered! I set the desk on furniture sliders and it does not make it any more wobbly! My partner doubted that I’d move the furniture every time, then I showed him how easy it was and he was very impressed.

Super-sliders

I got mine from Home Depot, but linked the same ones one Amazon.

So there you have it folks! Small changes, but it feels big. Kind of. I’m really enjoying myself and also checking out everyone else’s stories.

Total cost to date: $130

Coming up next: Planning the Murphy bed build in/out. This is my big project. I’m nervous, but I’ve been putting it off for too long.

Hugs to you and your dog! Our dog passed away recently at the age of 17, and it was indeed stressful at the end. I hope the dog is feeling better. Thanks for sharing your total spend, I can’t wait to see what’s next!
